Some 1986-1987 Broughams may experience a Code 44 which sets during an extended coastdown. This condition may be caused by an ECM PROM listed in the "Previous PROM I.D." column in the chart below.
To repair this condition, replace the ECM PROM with the appropriate service part number listed below.
Service Service Previous Emission Part PROM PROM Vehicle System Number I.D.* I.D.* ------- -------- ------- -------- ---------
1986-87 Brougham Federal 1228486 8486 2758 or 2797 1986-87 Brougham California 1228487 8487 2764 or 2801
* ECM PROM I.D. can be read with a scan tool connected to the ALDL link.
If replacing the ECM PROM does not repair this condition, proceed with Code 44 diagnosis as described in Section 6El-A of the 1986 Final Edition Fleetwood Brougham Service Information Manual.
For warranty purposes, use labor operation J6364 at .6 hour when replacing an ECM PROM.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
