In 1986, a change was made which involved the order of assembly of the 3-4 accumulator piston and spring. Figure 200-4R-229 of the 1986 and 1987 Service Information Manuals does not show proper spring and piston orientation.
Starting in 1986, transmissions were assembled by inverting the piston and installing it first, followed by the spring. This change resulted in a firmer 3-4 shift feel versus the previous assembly procedure which produces a softer shift feel.
Change the Service Information Manuals so the "NOTE" in Figure 200-4R-229 reads the same as that in Figure 1.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
