Some 1988 Broughams equipped with early built wire wheel covers (manufacture dates prior to August 24, 1987, refer to Figure 1) may experience a condition of excessive force required to install the wire wheel covers. Refer to the notice on page 2 of this bulletin.
This condition may be caused by oversized stainless steel clips (five per cover) that position the cover to the wheel (Figures 1 and 2). These clips also prevent the wire wheel cover from rotating on the wheel.
To repair this condition, use the following procedure:
- If an anti-rotation clip is oversized and the cover cannot be installed by hand, the wire wheel cover must be replaced (GMSPO P/N 1635123). Replacement clips are not available for service.
- If an anti-rotation clip has come off of the wheel cover, the clip can be reinstalled (Figure 3).
For warranty purposes, use Labor Operation T6249 at .3 hour to replace (or install clips on) one or two wheel covers. Add .2 hour to replace (or install clips on) the third or all four wheel covers.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
