WIRE WHEEL COVERS - DIFFICULT INSTALLATION (OPTION N91 - NI INDUSTRIES)
Some 1988 Broughams equipped with early built wire wheel covers (manufacture dates prior to August 24, 1987, refer to Figure 1) may experience a condition of excessive force required to install the wire wheel covers. Refer to the notice on page 2 of this bulletin.
This condition may be caused by oversized stainless steel clips (five per cover) that position the cover to the wheel (Figures 1 and 2). These clips also prevent the wire wheel cover from rotating on the wheel.
To repair this condition, use the following procedure:
o If an anti-rotation clip is oversized and the cover cannot be installed by hand, the wire wheel. cover must be replaced (P/N 1635123). Replacement clips are not available for service.
o If an anti-rotation clip has come off of the wheel cover, the clip can be reinstalled (Figure 3 and 4).
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
