DELAYED PARK/NEUTRAL TO DRIVE SHIFT ENGAGEMENT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1982-1989 RWD DE VILLES AND BROUGHAMS

This bulletin supersedes bulletin T-88-6, Group 7, which should be discarded.

1982-1986 Harsh and/or Delayed Engagement: ----------------------------------------- Some 1982-1986 RWD DeVilles and Broughams with THM 200-4R transmissions built before 1986 Julian Date 115 may experience a condition of harsh and/or delayed park/neutral-to-drive engagement. To repair this condition install a new neutral-to-drive shift package, P/N 8639970.

1986-1989 Delayed Engagement:

Some 1986-1989 Broughams with THM 200-4R transmissions built after 1986 Julian Date 114 and before 1989 Julian Date 237 may experience a condition of delayed park/neutral-to-drive engagement. To repair this condition use the following procedure:

1. Check for proper fluid level.

2. If OK, check the forward clutch and feed circuits for:

Cut or overlapping Teflon seal rings on forward clutch shaft. Cracked or broken forward clutch piston. Cut or rolled forward clutch piston seals. Porosity in the center support.

3. If none of the above are found to be the cause, install a revised forward clutch housing assembly, P/N 8639969.

Inc: Cooler line flush and setting of TV cable. Inc: Check overdrive unit, front unit, and rear unit end play. Add: To recondition 3.0 transmission completely.
