Some 1988-1989 Broughams with transmissions built after March 14, 1988 (Julian Date 074) and before July 7, 1989 (Julian Date 188) may experience a delayed engagement into reverse due to valve body spacer plate calibration. A revised spacer plate was used in units produced after July 7, 1989 (Julian Date 188). Refer to Figure 1.
While the past and current design parts have the same part number (8669060), there are two methods for identifying the current design.
First, the location of the identification stamping has been changed and is now visible with the valve body installed. Refer to Figure 2. The letter code "CH" is carried over to the new location.
Second, the "LO/REV FEED ORIFICE" was enlarged to approximately 1/8" (3mm) from approximately 3/32" (2.3mm). Refer to Figure 2. A drill bit may be used to check that the Lo/Rev/Feed orifice is the 1/8" hole size.
Refer to the unit repair section of the Service Information Manual for spacer plate removal and installation.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
