INTERMITTENT CEL CODE 34 ON LONG DRIVES (REPLACE TPS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1986-90 D 5.0L VIN CODE Y

Some 1986-1990 Broughams may experience an intermittent Check Engine Light (CEL) with a code 34 on long drives or upgrades.

This condition may be due to low TPS output voltage. If the TPS output voltage is lower than 2.0 volts during the condition, the code will set.

To diagnose and repair this condition use the Tech 1 to monitor the TPS output. With ignition on and engine off, monitor the TPS voltage at WOT. If it is less than 2.0 volts, replace the TPS with P/N #17078448.

Parts are currently available from CANSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
