NEW 3-4 CLUTCH PLATES (STEEL) 4L60 TRANSMISSIONS

SUBJECT: NEW 3-4 CLUTCH STEEL PLATES ON 1990-1991 BROUGHAMS - 4L60

As part of continuing product improvement, a revision to the 3-4 clutch steel plate was included into Hydra-Matic 4L60 transmission production for 1991 Broughams on July 27, i990 (Julian Date 208). The new plates can be used to service all Cadillac calibrations of the 4L60 in the 1990 and 1991 model years.

The new plates have a slightly smaller outer radius which allows them to move more freely in the clutch housing and prevent sticking. Sticking plates can contribute to 3-4 clutch distress. Refer to the Automatic Transmission Unit Repair section of the appropriate Service Information Manual when servicing the 4L60 for distressed 3-4 clutch. Inspection for sticky 3-4 clutch steel plates should be included along with the published diagnosis and repair procedures. If sticky, replace the steel plates with the part numbers listed below:
