ENGINE MISS, HARD START & STALL OR LONG CRANK

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 D CAR W/5.7L V-8 - VIN 7

Some 1990 Broughams with 5.7L powertrain may experience an engine stall, miss, hard start, or crank but no start condition.

This condition may be caused by a screw used in the G400 ground for the in-tank fuel pump. The screw does not have threads all the way to the shoulder; and when torqued, the eyelet for the 150 circuit may not be properly seated. Refer to Figure 1.

To repair this condition install screw, P/N 22506732, and torque to 1.7 N.m +/- .3N.m or 15 in. lbs. +/- 2 in. lbs.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
