The oil life index may not reset on some 1993 Fleetwoods (RWD) even though the Service Information Manual or Owner's Manual procedure is followed precisely. The procedure in Section 0B of the Service Information Manual is correct in that the accelerator pedal should be pressed to the floor three times in five seconds. But the procedure in the Owner's Manual, which states that the accelerator pedal should be pressed to the-floor five times in three seconds, will also work.
If using the Service Information Manual procedure the oil life index will not reset, the accelerator pedal may not have enough travel. This may be due to a misadjusted accelerator control and cruise control adjuster assembly (cable adjuster). To determine if the accelerator pedal has sufficient travel to allow resetting the oil life index, check the throttle angle reading using the Tech 1 while pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor. This reading should be 90 percent (%) or greater. If this reading is less than 90%, adjust the cable adjuster according to the procedure in Service Manual Section 7A substituting 4 Nm (36 lbs. in.) for the 7 Nm torque given in steps 8 and 9. Then, press the accelerator pedal to the floor and verify the throttle angle travel exceeds 90%. Also check for other sources of limited accelerator pedal travel.
For warranty purposes use Labor Operation H4070 at .2 hour for cable adjuster adjustment.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
