HIGH NOISE LEVEL FROM COOLING FAN (REVERSE FANS). Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 1993

SUBJECT: HIGH NOISE LEVEL FROM COOLING FAN (REVERSE FANS)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1993 "D" MODELS WITH COOLING OPTION (RPO V03)

CONDITION:

--------- On the 1993 Cadillac "D" Car with the V03 option (Extra Capacity Cooling), the cooling fan may be noisy.

CAUSE:

----- The primary cooling fan is a 240 watt unit. This unit may have an unacceptable level of noise. A production change was made to use the 150 watt fan as the primary, and the 240 watt fan as the secondary, in September of 1992, with VIN PR700899.

CORRECTION:

---------- 1. To insure that the fan noise is not confused with A/C compressor moan, disconnect the primary fan, and run the vehicle with the A/C on. If the noise goes away, proceed with the correction. If it does not, investigate for causes of compressor moan.

2. Disconnect negative battery cable.

3. Remove the two cooling fans, and reinstall in reverse position, following the instructions of pages 6B-11 and 12 of the 1993 Fleetwood Preliminary Service Manual. This will put the 150 watt fan on the left hand side as the primary fan, and the 240 watt fan on the right hand side as the secondary fan.

4. Replace the 30 amp Maxi-fuse #7 ("SCNDRY CLG FAN") with a 50 amp Maxi-fuse. This fuse is located in the underhood electrical centre (See page 8A-201-6, Figure 13). Page 8A-11-3 shows a close-up of the electrical centre.

5. Replace the electrical centre cover with P/N 10233852, which has a corrected fuse chart.

6. Reconnect negative battery cable.
