SCREECHING NOISE DURING CRANKING-REPLACE FLYWHEEL

MODELS AFFECTED: 1985-1988 DE VILLES AND FLEETWOODS 1986-1988 ELDORADOS AND SEVILLES 1987-1988 ALLANTES

Some 1985-1988 DeVilles and Fleetwoods, 1986-1988 Eldorados and Sevilles, and 1987-1988 Allantes may experience a screeching noise when the starter motor is engaged. Vehicles which experience this condition can be repaired by replacing the flywheel with P/N 1648458, which is currently available from GMSPO. This newly-released part has a wider starter ring gear as well as improved ring gear retention and closer tolerances. This flywheel will be used in 1989 production.

Use Labor Operation J1400 at 3.9 hours for C-Cars or 4.3 hours for E, K, and V-Cars.
