DRIVE AXLE BOOT PROTECTOR J-TOOL MODIFICATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-86 'C' and 'D' Cars, 1986 'E' and 'K' Cars

An outer joint drive axle boot protector should be used for all service procedures 'which require the removal of the lower ball joint on 1985-86 DeVilles and Fleetwoods, and 1986 Eldorados and Sevilles. This protector will prevent the boot clamp damaged. Damage to a clamp may not be visible, but can cause a leak and may eventually result in a drive axle joint failure.

Dealers currently have boot protector J-34754 in their essential tool inventory. This tool can be used for the above application if it is modified as shown in Figure 1. The indentations can be removed using diagonal cutters and can then be trimmed using a sharp knife.
