Some 1985-1987 De Villes, Fleetwoods, Eldorados and Sevilles may experience engine flare, pump whine or transaxle slips on severe turning maneuvers. Flare may be described as a quick increase in engine r.p.m., accompanied by a momentary loss of torque.
This condition may be caused by a loss of prime to the oil pump as a result of transaxle fluid movement in the oil pan.
To repair this condition, check for proper fluid level and correct as necessary. If the flare still occurs, remove the bottom pan and replace the filter and seal with the new design filter (which contains a baffle) and seal package.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
