WATER IN COMPOSITE HEADLAMPS CHECK VENT TUBES FOR KINKS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1986-1987 CIMARRON 1986-1987 ELDORADO AND SEVILLE 1987 DE VILLE AND FLEETWOOD 1987 ALLANTE

A condition may exist where condensation forms on the inside of the composite headlamp lens due to extreme temperature changes and/or high humidity. This moisture should dissipate with the headlamps on. The length of time for the moisture to dissipate may vary with the heat generated by the headlamps and air flow through the headlamp assembly from vehicle movement.

If condensation remains with headlamps on:

1. On Eldorado, Seville or Allante models, check the upper and lower drainage holes for obstructions.

2. On De Villes and Fleetwood models, the vent tubes located at the top inside and bottom outside of the composite headlamp assembly, should be inspected for kinks or obstructions.

3. On Cimarron models, the vent tube, located at the lower right end of the headlamp assembly, should be checked for kinks or obstructions.

Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. To prevent explosion or early failure of the bulbs, handle bulbs by the base and avoid touching the glass.

If cleaning of the headlamp assembly is necessary, rinse lens and reflector with distilled water. DO NOT use tap water as a visible residue may result. Use a heat gun to dry headlamp assembly interior. Use a heat setting for no more than one minute, then use NO HEAT setting for an additional few minutes at each socket opening. DO NOT allow the heat gun to come in direct contact with the headlamp assembly as very high temperatures may cause degradation of plastics and adhesives used in the assembly.

For warranty purposes, use the following Labor Operations:

Labor Time Allowance Description Operation C J E, K, V ----------- --------- - - ------- Composite Headlamp Assy. (RH) T6213 .9 .5 .3 Composite Headiamp Assy. (LH) T6214 .9 .5 .3

Add .1 hours if headlamp cleaning is necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
