Some early 1986 'C' and 'D' models may experience an engine miss due to a shorted spark plug wire. The condition results from the spark plug wire being pinched between the air cleaner and heater water valve supply hose. With later models, the spark plug wires were enclosed in a longer conduit and routed differently to prevent grounding.
If this condition is encountered, replace the damaged spark plug wire and replace the existing wire harness conduit with a new piece that measures 195mm (7.68in.) long. Orient the conduit split line to the 4 o'clock position when viewed from the front of the car. This orientation is necessary to assure the spark plug wires remain enclosed in the conduit and away from any pinch points. The 2.54cm (1 inch) ID wire harness conduit is available in bulk 4.57m (15 foot) lengths from GM Parts uuder part number 12013948.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
