Some 1985-1990 DeVilles and Fleetwoods may experience a service A/C light due to a refrigerant leak from a crack in the metal tube section of the compressor hose assembly. The crack may be caused by loose A/C compressor mounting bolts. The A/C compressor may be loose to the mounting bracket or the bracket may be loose to the block. NOTE: The BCM may or may not store a BCM diagnostic code F46, F47, and/or F48.
To diagnose and repair this condition:
1. Remove the A/C compressor using the appropriate Service Information Manual.
2. Torque the A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts to 45 N-m (33 ft. lbs.).
3. Reinstall the A/C compressor and torque bolts to 30 N-m (22 ft. lbs.).
4. Install new compressor hose assembly listed below.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
