Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
  2. Important: The steering column is removed with the upper intermediate shaft attached.

  3. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 754894  Size: SH

    Important: Note the relationship of the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column in order to ensure proper installation.

  5. Remove the retaining bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column.
  6. Remove the upper intermediate shaft from the steering column.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 754894  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column as noted during removal.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the upper retaining bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

    Important: The steering column is installed with the upper intermediate steering shaft attached.

  5. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
