Circuit Description

The SIR SDM compares the vehicle restraint ID stored in the SDM and that stored in the IPM. The ID to be compared include the last 4 digits of the SDM part number. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM compares this information to the information stored in the instrumental panel module over the serial data communication circuit. If there is a mismatch between the information stored in the SDM and IP module, DTC B1001 will set.

DTC Descriptor

The diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B1001 SDM Option Configuration Error

The vehicle has DTCs including the DTC symptoms. Refer to DTC Symptom Description for DTC information.

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via GMLAN serial data communications.
    • The SDM disables all deployments.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

Diagnostic Aids

This DTC is an indication that incorrect SDM is installed in the vehicle, or that the SDM and/or the IPM was replaced without reprogramming the IPM with the new information.

Test Description

The following numbers are corresponding to the steps in the diagnostic table.

  1. This step tests if the VIN stored in the IPM is correct or not.

  2. This step indicates reprogramming to the IPM is necessary.

  3. This step checks if the DTC is the current one after it is cleared. If so, wrong SDM is installed.
