Circuit Description

The driver position module (DPM) determines the position of the steering column based on inputs received from position sensor located in the tilt driver. The DPM supplies a 5-volt reference and a ground signal to the sensor and monitors the column position via a steering column sensor signal circuit.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B2880 Tilt Position Sensor

Conditions for Running the DTC

DTC B1327 is not set as a current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This DTC will set as current when the voltage is below 0.25 volt or greater than 4.75 volts for 2 seconds on the tilt driver signal circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DPM will not allow the affected motor to work during memory recall and/or easy exit operations. However, the motor will still operate for manual switch positioning.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

This DTC will clear from current status when the voltage is greater than 0.25 or less than 4.75 volts for 2 seconds.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With a DMM, detect the tilt position signal input circuit to obtain the voltage on it.

Is the voltage less then the specified value?

4.75V

3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the driver harness connector from the tilt/telescoping DPM.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the tilt position circuit of the DPM and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a DMM, observe the voltage on the tilt position signal input circuit.

Is the voltage less then the specified value?

0.12V
