Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Activate and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) Data List:
  5. • Information Down Switch
    • Information Up Switch
    • Information Reset Switch
    • Trip Reset Switch
    • English/Metric Switch

Does the scan tool display Active when each switch is pressed and Inactive when each switch is released?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC/dimmer switch.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the DIC switch feed circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect a test lamp between the DIC switch feed circuit and the DIC switch ground circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Test the DIC switch feed circuit for the following:

    • An open
    • Short to ground
    • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the DIC switch ground circuit for the following:

    • An open
    • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Test the DIC switch signal circuit for the following:

    • An open
    • Short to ground
    • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC/dimmer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs .

Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

Replace the DIC/dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Lamp Dimmer Switch Replacement .
