DEFINITION: Tilt function is Inoperative, but telescope function operates normally.

Verify that the steering column tilt function is inoperative.

Does the tilt motor operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. With the scan tool, detect telescope/tilt switch parameter in the tilt/telescope module data display list.

Does the scan tool display the idle state?

Go to Step 4

When tilt/telescoping manual switch moves up/down from neutral position, observe tilt/telescoping switch parameter on tilt/telescoping module data display list.

Did the parameter change as expected?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the steering column tilt/telescope switch harness connector.

Does the scan tool display the idle state?

Check tilt/telescope steering column switch up and down signal circuit for an open or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Check the steering column tilt driver control circuit for a short or open to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs

Check tilt driver position sensor 5-volt reference circuit and ground for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the tilt/telescoping steering column switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.
