RCDLR Setup Procedure
Important: The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) must be programmed with the proper configurations before performing learn procedures.
Preconditions
Use this procedure after replacing any of the following components:
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR)
Setup New RCDLR
- Connect the Tech 2 to the vehicle.
- Select RCDLR under Module Setup in the Vehicle Control Systems menu.
- Select the Setup New RCDLR.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to operate.
Important: When replacing a RCDLR with a GM SPO replacement part, ensure the procedure to setup a new control module is performed prior to the 10-minute relearn procedure.
Important: When replacing an ECM with a GM SPO replacement part, the new ECM will learn the incoming password of the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) immediately upon the next ignition switch from OFF to CRANK. An ECM which had been installed in another vehicle will have learned the theft deterrent password of another vehicles RCDLR. Perform the 10-minute relearn procedure to learn the password of the current vehicles RCDLR.
10-Minute Relearn Procedure
Use this procedure after replacing any of the following components:
| • | Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) |
| • | Engine Control Module |
Important: When replacing either the RCDLR, key fobs, or ECM and the 10-minute relearn procedure is used, ensure that the appropriate calibration is selected for the replacement component on the calibration selection screen of the service programming system. The appropriate calibrations for specific VTD system components are described below.
| • | When replacing an ECM that has previously learned another vehicle RCDLR's password and the 10-minute relearn procedure is used, the Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn for Powertrain System Control Module calibration is required. This clears the previously password in the ECM and enables the ECM to learn the next password it receives. |
| • | When replacing an RCDLR and the 10-minute relearn procedure is used, the vehicle theft deterrent learn for powertrain system control module calibration is required. This clears the previously password in the ECM and enables the ECM to learn the next fuel continue password it receives. |
Important: When replacing an RCDLR with a GM SPO replacement part, ensure the procedure to setup a new control module is performed prior to the 10-minute relearn procedure.
- Connect a scan tool to the vehicle.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Ensure that all electrical consumers are turned off.
- With a scan tool, select Request Info. under Service Programming System and follow the scan tool on-screen instructions.
- Disconnect the scan tool from the vehicle and connect the scan tool to a Techline Terminal with the current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
- On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions. Ensure the correct programming procedure is selected based on component being replaced or programmed. See Important above.
- Disconnect the scan tool from the Techline Terminal and re-connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
- Turn on the ignition switch, and do not start the engine.
- With a scan tool, select Program ECU under Service Programming System.
- At this point the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
- Observe the scan tool, after approximately 10 minutes the scan tool will display Programming Successful, Turn OFF Ignition. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the key fob information and/or the passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
- Turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds.
- Start the vehicle. The ECM has now learned the RCDLR password.
- Clear all the DTCs with the scan tool.
Important:
• The scan tool will initially display 12 Minutes. The first 2 minutes allow the scan tool to initialize the appropriate control module. The remaining 10 minutes is the relearn timer. • On some vehicles the SECURITY telltale may be illuminated on steady for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
