Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic module (SDM) tests the system continuously. When the ignition is ON, the SDM will check the vehicle configuration component installation. If any module is found not programmed after installed to the vehicle or wrong configuration, the SDM will set DTC B 1019. If SDM is replaced, ensure the part installed has the correct part number.
The diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:
DTC B1019: System Configuration ErrorThe vehicle has DTCs including the DTC symptoms. Refer to Diagnostic Procedure Instructions for DTC information.
DTC Symptom | DTC Symptom Descriptor |
---|---|
00 | System Configuration Error |
Ignition voltage is within normal operating range.
• | When programming the SDM, option configuration is wrong. |
• | The vehicle has installed wrong SDM. |
• | Certain module is not configured after being replaced or configured in error. |
• | The SDM commands the AIR BAG indicator ON via GMLAN serial data communications. |
• | The SDM disables all deployments. |
• | The vehicle must be installed with correct SDM. |
• | Correct components must be installed. |
• | All modules are configured correctly. |
The DTC indicates that the SDM installed in the vehicle is not correct or certain module is not configured after being replaced or certain module is incorrectly configured.
The following numbers are corresponding to the steps in the diagnostic table.
This step checks if there is current DTC on SDM.
This step tests if the VIN programmed in the IPM is correct or not.
This step indicates reprogramming to the IPM is necessary.

1 | Have you conducted Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? | Go to Step 2 | |
Important: J-45289 CANdi Module must be used together with the scan tool.
Does the scan tool indicate DTC B1019 as current trouble code? | Go to Step 3 | Go to Step 8 | |
Using the scan tool check the IPM that is programmed with the VIN. Verify that the IPM is programmed with the correct VIN number with the vehicle VIN plate. Is the IPM programmed with correct VIN? | Go to Step 6 | Go to Step 4 | |
Use the scan tool to program the correct VIN into IPM procedure. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, set up, and programming. Is the reprogramming completed? | Go to Step 5 | -- | |
5 | Use the scan tool to perform Setup SDM Part Number into IPM under the computer and integration special functions. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, set up, and programming. Is the reprogramming completed? | Go to Step 8 | -- |
6 | Check if the vehicle has new module replaced recently. Does the vehicle show any sign of new module replaced recently? | Go to Step 7 | Go to Step 8 |
7 | Go to the replaced module programming. Refer to Control Module References for replacement, set up, and programming. Is the reprogramming completed? | Go to Step 8 | -- |
8 |
Does the DTC set again? | Go to Step 9 | System OK |
9 |
Have you finished the replacement? | Go to Step 10 | -- |
10 |
Does the DTC set again? | Go to Step 2 | System OK |
