Diagnostic Instructions
Circuit/System Description
Passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator is used to tell the driver that the PPS has enabled or disabled the IP inflation module. When the ignition is ON, the PPS is power on and commands the 2 passenger airbag enabling and disabling indicator
to turn on for 5 seconds. When the two indicators are both on, test the PPS components and circuits. If no malfunction is found, the PPS will turn on or off the airbag indicators according to the status of the PPS. If malfunction is found, the PPS will
store a DTC and set the PPS disabled as its default status, then communicates with SDM to notify that a DTC is set. The SDM will request the IPC to turn the airbag indicator ON to notify the driver that the PPS has malfunction.
Diagnostic Aids
History DTC may result from short or open circuit of ignition 1 to passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator

Circuit/System Testing
Important: When removing connectors, inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
• | Passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator |
• | Passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator harness connector |
• | PPS wiring harness connector |
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the PPS module connector located under the passenger seat.
- Disconnect the passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator connector.
- Test the passenger enabling/disabling indicator ignition 1 voltage circuit for high resistance or short to ground or open circuited. Check and verify no high resistance, an open or short to voltage exist.
⇒ | If any of the above conditions are found make the appropriate repair. |
- Test the passenger enabling/disabling indicator and PPS airbag enabling/disabling indicator control circuit for high resistance or short to ground or open circuited. Check and verify no high resistance, an open or short to voltage exist.
⇒ | If any of the above conditions are found make the appropriate repair. |
- Reconnect the PPS connector, then turn engine off, ignition on. Then connect a test lamp between the passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator connector ignition 1 voltage circuit and passenger disabling indicator control circuit. When there
is no occupant on the front seat, check and verify the test lamp is ON.
⇒ | If the test lamp is not on, replace the PPS. |
⇒ | If it is on, replace the passenger airbag enabling/disabling indicator. |
