Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Cover the sunload sensor assembly.
  2. Turn ON the courtesy lamps.
  3. Push and release the instrument panel (I/P) compartment lamp switch.

Does the I/P compartment lamp operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the I/P compartment lamp switch harness connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the I/P compartment lamp switch voltage supply circuit and ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the I/P compartment lamp switch voltage supply circuit and the I/P compartment lamp switch ground circuit at the I/P compartment lamp switch harness connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the I/P compartment lamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Go to Step 9

Locate and repair the following in the I/P compartment lamp voltage supply circuit:

    • An open
    • A high resistance
    • A short to ground

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Locate and repair an open or high resistance in the I/P compartment lamp switch ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the I/P compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
