Manual Second - 1st Gear is commanded ON by TCM when the vehicle speed is lower than engine calibrated value in TCM to reach the maximum engine braking. The following changes will occur in the hydraulic and electrical systems:

Manual Valve: Manual Second - 1st Gear is only commanded by TCM, and the Manual Valve does not move.

Low and Reverse Clutch Applies

1-2 SS Valve: 1-2 SS valve is de-energized to prevent the feed limit fluid from flowing into 1-2 signal fluid passage and the 1-2 signal fluid pressure is drained through 1-2 SS valve.

1-2 Shift Control Valve: 1-2 signal fluid is drained, 2-3 signal fluid can overcome the 1-2 shift control valve spring (367) tension to move the 1-2 shift control valve (366) to the applied position. The operation makes the feed limit fluid flow into feed pipe fluid circuits.

1-2 Shift Control Valve: The feed pipe fluid is sent to the 1-2 shift control valve (387) and overcomes the 1-2 shift control valve spring (388) tension to move the valve to the applied position. The operation makes 123 adjusting fluid flow into the Low and Reverse clutch fluid circuit.

#8 Ball Check Valve: Low and Reverse Clutch fluid goes against the #8 ball check valve to the reverse lockout fluid circuits and flows into Low and Reverse Clutch or reverse lockout fluid passages.

Low and Reverse Clutch: Low and Reverse Clutch or Reverse lockout fluid pressure is sent to the outboard area of Low and Reverse Clutch piston, so the piston overcomes the spring tension to apply Low and Reverse Clutch Plate.

2nd Clutch and 2nd Coast Clutch Release

2nd Clutch Assembly: 2nd clutch fluid is drained from the 2nd clutch piston to release the 2nd clutch plate.

2nd Coast Clutch Assembly: 2nd coast clutch fluid is drained from the 2nd coast clutch piston to release the 2nd coast clutch plate.

1-2 Shift Valve: 2nd coast clutch fluid flows into 1-2 shift valve through 2-3 shift valve and then into 2nd clutch fluid circuit. 2nd clutch fluid flows to 1-2 shift valve through valve bore #21 and drains from the valve.

Shift Accumulator

2nd Clutch Accumulator: 2nd clutch fluid also drains from the 2nd clutch accumulator assembly. Accumulator fluid makes 2nd clutch accumulator piston overcome the accumulator spring tension to prepare for 2nd clutch apply once again.
