Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Circuit equipped with MEM T&T 10A fuse in this step.

  2. Circuit equipped with MEM T&T 30A fuse in this step.

  3. If the motor current of tilt or telescopic driver displayed on the scan tool is below 0A or greater than 10A, review proper drawings associated with the inoperative driver.

  4. Circuit equipped with MEM T&T 30A fuse in this step.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Operate the tilt/telescoping system.

Does the tilt/telescoping motor operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Install a scan tool.

Does scan tool communicate with the memory seat module (MSM)?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. When the tilt/telescoping manual switch moves up/down/in/out from the neutral position, observe the tilt/telescoping switch parameter on tilt/telescoping module data display list.

Did the parameter change as expected?

Go to Step 7

Test B+ voltage circuit of Seat Module for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 21

Test the ground circuit of the memory seat module for an open.

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the conditions?

Test the fuse for a open.

Is the Fuse OK?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the memory seat module connector which contains battery positive circuit and ground circuit.
  3. Test the battery positive circuit for an open or high resistance.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 21

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the memory seat module connector which contains battery positive circuit and ground circuit.
  3. Test the battery positive circuit and ground circuit.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 21

  1. Reconnect the memory seat module connector which contains battery positive circuit and ground circuit.
  2. Disconnect the tilt and telescoping drive harness connector from the MSM.
  3. Replace the fuse.
  4. Turn the ignition ON.
  5. Using the tilt/telescopic steering column switch, operate the power tilt telescopic to various positions.

Is the fuse open again?

Go to Step 20

  1. Reconnect the tilt actuator harness connector.
  2. Using the power tilt/telescopic steering column switch, operate the power tilt telescopic to various positions.

Is the fuse open again?

Go to Step 16

  1. Reconnect the telescoping driver harness connector.
  2. Using the power tilt/telescopic steering column switch, operate the power tilt telescopic to various positions.

Is the fuse open again?

Disconnect the tilt/telescoping switch on MSM. Using a test light, test the switch on MSM for ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 14

Inspect the tilt/telescopic steering column switch for poor connections or overtightens. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 21

Inspect the memory seat module harness connector which contains battery positive circuit and ground circuit for poor connections or overtightens. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs.

Check the tilt driver circuit for a short to ground.

Check the telescoping driver circuit for a short to ground.

Replace the tilt/telescopic steering column switch.

Replace the steering column driver causing an open fuse. Refer to Telescope Actuator Assembly Replacement.

Calibrate the steering column. Refer to Telescoping Steering Column Calibration.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
