Description

Passenger Presence Sensing (PPS) is the standard system. It is necessary to check if there is preload in each region after the system is serviced or replaced. If the passenger seat bottom cushion or trim is serviced, reinstalled or removed for various reasons, the following procedures may help you check the preload of the PPS.

Before starting, read the procedures carefully. Refer to SIR System Description and Operation for more information on PPS.

Important: The following steps must be observed:

  1. Read the procedure carefully.
  2. If the PPS detects a preload at certain region, the PPS cannot operate normally.
  3. After finishing the preload test procedures, perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle to ensure the normal operation of the system

Passenger Presence System Preload Test Procedure

    Important:

       • Before the PPS preloading, there shall be no articles on the front passenger seat. Any article on the front passenger seat will influence the procedure.
       • When the SDM starts communication with the PPS, the IPC and instrument indicator will start flashing. This is normal and indicates no other faults in the system.

  1. Clear away any objects on the front passenger outboard seat.
  2. Install the scan tool.
  3. Important: Before checking the PPS preload, you must clear away all DTCs about SIR and PPS, except preload DTC.

  4. Use the scan tool to clear away SIR and PPS DTCs. If any current DTC is set, except preload DTC, check and correct the fails indicated by the DTCs.
  5. Use the scan tool, go to Vehicle Control Systems, then choose Module Replacement/Setup, select PPS to start the preload test procedures.
  6. Use the scan tool in order to display the PPS to Passenger Presence System Displaying Code Procedure.
  7. If DTC DTC 1052-1055 is set, refer to DTC 1052, 1053, 1054 or 1055.
  8. If no preload DTC is found in the PPS, clear away all history DTCs about SIR and PPS except preload DTC.
  9. Perform Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle after all services are completed.
