Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step determines if the liftgate ajar switch, which is an integral part of the liftgate lock actuator, may be the cause of the malfunction.

If the 3-amp jumper wire fuse opens when the jumper wire is connected, test the signal circuit for a short-to-voltage.

DEFINITION: Diagnosis of the liftgate ajar indicator does not display AJAR when the liftgate door is open or ajar.

1

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

2

Verify that the liftgate ajar indicator malfunction complaint is present.

Does the liftgate ajar indicator system operate as described in the system description and operation?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the liftgate.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Lift Gate Ajar Indicator Switch parameter in the Data Display, Inputs list of the Rear Integration Module.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Lift Gate Ajar Switch parameter is in the Closed state?

Go to Step 4

Go to Rear Hatch/Gate Ajar Indicator Always On

4

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Lift Gate Ajar Indicator Switch parameter in the Data Display, Inputs list of the Rear Integration Module.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Lift Gate Ajar Switch parameter is in the Ajar state?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 5

5

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the liftgate lock actuator.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit of the harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With the scan tool, observe the Lift Gate Ajar Indicator Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

6

  1. Connect the 3-amp fused jumper wire between the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit and the ground circuit of the harness connector.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Lift Gate Ajar Indicator Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display Ajar?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 10

7

Test the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to voltage
    • A high resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?
