Caution: Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Sectioning should be performed only in the recommended areas. Failure to do so may compromise the structural integrity of the vehicle and cause personal injury if the vehicle is in a collision.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.



3. Remove all related panels and components.
4. Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in Paint and Coatings.
5. Restore as much of the damage as possible.
6. On the windshield pillar, measure down 250 mm (9 13/16 in) from the base of the windshield pillar reinforcement. This is your section location.



7. Apply 3M Weld-Thru Coating P/N 05913 or equivalent to all mating surfaces.
8. Construct a 100 mm (4 in) long joint reinforcement from a scrap portion of the unused service part.
9. Slip the reinforcement inside the new service part.
10. MIG weld the reinforcement to the sectioned service part.

1. Apply 3M Weld-Thru Coating P/N 05913 or equivalent to all mating surfaces.
2. Insert the part into the joint area of the windshield pillar.
3. Use MIG plug-welds to attach the joint reinforcement to the windshield pillar inner tube.

Important: Ensure that the gap of the butt joint is 1.5 times the metal thickness.

4. To create a solid weld with minimum heat distortion, use alternating 25 mm (1 in) stitch welds along the seam to completely fill in the butt joint.
5. Clean and prepare all of the welded surfaces.
6. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair in Paint and Coatings.
7. Paint the repaired area. Refer to Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems in Paint and Coatings.
8. Install all of the related panels and components.
9. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
