Battery Positive Cable Replacement LY7 (LHD)

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter, and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same as the original cable.


    Object Number: 1863327  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt.
  3. Remove the positive battery cable from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 1863408  Size: SH
  5. Open the bussed electrical center (BEC) terminal cover.
  6. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1).
  7. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the BEC stud.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  10. Reposition the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  11. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (2) and remove the battery positive cable (1) from the generator.

  12. Object Number: 1863442  Size: SH
  13. Remove the transmission lower bellhousing bolt (1).
  14. Reposition the positive battery cable clip from the bellhousing.

  15. Object Number: 1863410  Size: SH
  16. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and remove the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

  18. Object Number: 1863411  Size: SH
  19. Remove the positive battery cable clips (1) from the radiator outlet pipe brackets.
  20. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1863411  Size: SH
  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the positive battery cable clips (1) to the radiator outlet pipe brackets.
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1863410  Size: SH
  5. Install the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1863442  Size: SH
  7. Position the positive battery cable clip to the bellhousing.
  8. Install the transmission lower bellhousing bolt (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the battery positive cable (1) to the generator and install the generator output BAT terminal nut (2).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  12. Position the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Install the positive battery cable (2) to the BEC stud.
  16. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  18. Close the BEC terminal cover.

  19. Object Number: 1863327  Size: SH
  20. Position the positive battery cable (1) to the battery.
  21. Tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  23. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LY7 (RHD)

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter, and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt.
  3. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the battery.

  5. Open the bussed electrical center (BEC) terminal cover.
  6. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1).
  7. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the BEC stud.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  10. Reposition the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  11. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (2) and remove the battery positive cable (1) from the generator.

  13. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and remove the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.

  14. Object Number: 1863442  Size: SH
  15. Remove the transmission lower bellhousing bolt (1).
  16. Reposition the positive battery cable clip from the bellhousing.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

  19. Cut the tie straps (2) securing the positive battery cable to the engine wiring harness (1).

  20. Object Number: 1863411  Size: SH
  21. Remove the positive battery cable clips (1) from the radiator outlet pipe brackets.
  22. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1863411  Size: SH
  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the positive battery cable clips (1) to the radiator outlet pipe brackets.
  3. Raise the vehicle.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1863410  Size: SH
  5. Install the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1863442  Size: SH
  7. Position the positive battery cable clip to the bellhousing (1).
  8. Install the transmission lower bellhousing bolt.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  10. Install the battery positive cable (1) to the generator and install the generator output BAT terminal nut (2).
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  12. Position the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Install the positive battery cable (2) to the BEC stud.
  16. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  18. Close the BEC terminal cover.

  20. Install NEW tie straps (2) securing the positive battery cable to the engine wiring harness (1).

  21. Object Number: 1863279  Size: SH
  22. Position the positive battery cable (2) to the battery.
  23. Tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  25. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LH2 (LHD)

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter, and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt.
  3. Remove the positive battery cable (1) from the battery.

  5. Open the bussed electrical center (BEC) terminal cover.
  6. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1).
  7. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the BEC stud.

  8. Object Number: 1863602  Size: SH
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  10. Reposition the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  11. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (2) and remove the positive battery cable (1) from the generator.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

  15. Remove the starter motor BAT terminal nut (2).
  16. Remove the starter motor S terminal nut (1).
  17. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter.

  18. Object Number: 1863696  Size: SH
  19. Remove the positive battery cable clips (1) from the engine wiring harness bracket.
  20. Disconnect the positive battery cable electrical connector (2) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  22. Remove the positive battery cable upper clips (1) from the engine wiring harness bracket.
  23. Remove the positive battery cable lower clips (2) from the engine wiring harness bracket.

  25. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1863699  Size: SH
  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 1863697  Size: SH
  3. Install the positive battery cable lower clips (2) to the engine wiring harness bracket.
  4. Install the positive battery cable upper (1) clips to the engine wiring harness bracket

  5. Object Number: 1863696  Size: SH
  6. Install the positive battery cable clips (1) to the engine wiring harness bracket.
  7. Connect the positive battery cable electrical connector (2) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  8. Object Number: 1863606  Size: SH
  9. Install the positive battery cable to the starter.
  10. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  11. Install the starter motor S terminal nut (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  13. Install the starter motor BAT terminal nut (2).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  15. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  16. Raise and support vehicle.

  17. Object Number: 1863602  Size: SH
  18. Install the positive battery cable (1) to the generator and install the generator output BAT terminal nut (2).
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  20. Position the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  21. Lower the vehicle.

  23. Install the positive battery cable (2) to the BEC stud.
  24. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  26. Close the BEC terminal cover.

  28. Position the positive battery cable (1) to the battery.
  29. Tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  31. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LH2 (RHD)

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter, and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt.
  3. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 1863408  Size: SH
  5. Open the bussed electrical center (BEC) terminal cover.
  6. Remove the positive battery cable nut (1).
  7. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the BEC stud.

  8. Object Number: 1863602  Size: SH
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  10. Reposition the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  11. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (2) and remove the positive battery cable (1) from the generator.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

  14. Object Number: 1863606  Size: SH
  15. Remove the starter motor BAT terminal nut (2).
  16. Remove the starter motor S terminal nut (1).
  17. Remove the positive battery cable from the starter.

  18. Object Number: 1863716  Size: SH
  19. Remove the positive battery cable clips (1, 3) from the engine wiring harness bracket.
  20. Disconnect the positive battery cable electrical connector (2) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  22. Remove the positive battery cable upper clips (1) from the engine wiring harness bracket.
  23. Remove the positive battery cable lower clips (2) from the engine wiring harness bracket.

  24. Object Number: 1863717  Size: SH
  25. Remove the positive battery cable from behind the rear engine wiring harness bracket.
  26. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1863717  Size: SH
  1. Install the positive battery cable to the vehicle.
  2. Install the positive battery cable behind the rear engine wiring harness bracket.

  3. Object Number: 1863697  Size: SH
  4. Install the positive battery cable lower clips (2) to the engine wiring harness bracket.
  5. Install the positive battery cable upper (1) clips to the engine wiring harness bracket

  6. Object Number: 1863716  Size: SH
  7. Install the positive battery cable clips (1, 3) to the engine wiring harness bracket.
  8. Connect the positive battery cable electrical connector (2) to the engine wiring harness electrical connector.

  9. Object Number: 1863606  Size: SH
  10. Install the positive battery cable to the starter.
  11. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Install the starter motor S terminal nut (1).
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  14. Install the starter motor BAT terminal nut (2).
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  17. Raise and support vehicle.

  19. Install the positive battery cable (1) to the generator and install the generator output BAT terminal nut (2).
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  21. Position the positive battery cable boot at the generator output BAT terminal.
  22. Lower the vehicle.

  24. Install the positive battery cable (2) to the BEC stud.
  25. Install the positive battery cable nut (1).
  26. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  27. Close the BEC terminal cover.

  29. Position the positive battery cable (1) to the battery.
  30. Tighten the positive battery cable bolt.
  31. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LH2 with Top Post

Removal Procedure

    • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
    • Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

  2. Object Number: 2001604  Size: SH
  3. Rotate the lever (2) on the battery clamp to disengage the clamp.
  4. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery (3).

  5. Object Number: 785724  Size: SH
  6. Remove the wiring harness from the retaining features on the underhood fuse block cover.
  7. Depress the tabs in order to remove the underhood fuse block cover from the underhood fuse block.

  8. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  9. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.
  10. Disconnect the cable retaining clip from the stud.
  11. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

  12. Object Number: 1237944  Size: SH
  13. Remove the positive battery cable (2) from the starter motor.
  14. Remove the positive battery cable from the retaining features on the engine wiring harness bracket.
  15. Remove the positive battery cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1237944  Size: SH
  1. Position the battery positive cable to the engine.
  2. Install the positive battery cable to the retaining features on the engine wiring harness bracket.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  6. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  7. Connect the cable retaining clip to the stud.
  8. Install battery positive cable (2) and nut (1) to the underhood fuse block.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).


    Object Number: 785724  Size: SH
  10. Install the underhood fuse block cover to the underhood fuse block.
  11. Install the wiring harness to the retaining features on the underhood fuse block cover.

  12. Object Number: 2001604  Size: SH
  13. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery (3).
  14. Rotate the lever (2) on the battery clamp to engage the clamp
  15. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Positive Cable Replacement LY7 and LLT (LHD) with Top Post

Removal Procedure

Important: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cable the same as the original cable.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 2001604  Size: SH
  3. Rotate the lever (2) on the battery clamp to disengage the clamp.
  4. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery (3).

  5. Object Number: 785724  Size: SH
  6. Depress the tabs in order to remove the cover from the electrical center.

  7. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the electrical center.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  10. Object Number: 887703  Size: SH
  11. Reposition the protective boot from the generator output BAT terminal for access.
  12. Remove the generator output BAT terminal nut (3) and disconnect the battery positive lead (2) from the generator.

  13. Object Number: 887713  Size: SH
  14. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.
  15. Remove the battery positive cable from the engine.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the battery positive cable to the engine.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 887713  Size: SH
  3. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).


    Object Number: 887703  Size: SH
  5. Connect the battery positive lead (2) to the generator and install the generator BAT terminal nut (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).

  7. Install the protective boot to the generator output BAT terminal.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 772415  Size: SH
  10. Install the nut (1) securing the battery positive cable (2) to the underhood fuse block.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  12. Install the electrical center cover.

  13. Object Number: 2001604  Size: SH
  14. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery (3).
  15. Rotate the lever (2) on the battery clamp to engage the clamp
  16. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
