J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  2. Remove the turn signal multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  3. Remove the tilt spring. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement .
  4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 306307  Size: SH
  6. Remove the steering column pivot pins (3) from the steering column tilt head (1) using remover J 21854-01  (2) .

  7. Object Number: 420224  Size: SH
  8. Install the tilt lever into the steering column tilt head (1).
  9. Pull back on the tilt lever and disengage the steering column tilt head (1) with the steering shaft (3) connected from the steering column jacket (2)

  10. Object Number: 667564  Size: SH
  11. Remove the steering shaft (1) from the steering column tilt head.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 667564  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering shaft (1) into the steering column tilt head assembly.

  2. Object Number: 420224  Size: SH
  3. Install the steering column tilt head (1) and attached steering shaft (3) into the steering column jacket (2).

  4. Object Number: 420225  Size: SH
  5. Align the steering column tilt head with the steering column pivot pin holes on the steering column jacket.
  6. Lubricate the steering column pivot pins with GM P/N 12346293 (Canadian P/N 99723) and install them into the steering column tilt head.
  7. Stake each steering column pivot pin in 3 places.
  8. Install the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .
  9. Install the tilt spring. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Spring Replacement .
  10. Install the turn signal multifunction switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  11. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
