Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side V8 w/LHD
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.
- Remove the air cleaner housing assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the nut securing the air conditioning (A/C) lines to the left hand shock tower.
Position the lines aside to provide tool access to the exhaust manifold shield front bolt.
- Remove the front upper heat shield bolt.
- Disconnect the master cylinder electrical connector.
- Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts.
Position the master cylinder towards the engine to gain tool access to the exhaust manifold shield rear bolt.
- Remove the rear upper heat shield bolt.
- Disconnect both Bank 2 heated oxygen sensor pigtail connectors from the wiring harness connector.
- Remove the power steering gear. Refer to
Steering Gear Replacement
.
- Remove the lower intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the exhaust system. Refer to
Exhaust System Replacement
.
- Remove the Bank 2, Sensor 1 heated oxygen sensor. Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1
.
- Remove the remaining exhaust manifold heat shield bolt and remove the shield.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield to the manifold with the lower bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the Bank 2, Sensor 1 heated oxygen sensor. Refer to
Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1
.
- Install the exhaust system. Refer to
Exhaust System Replacement
.
- Install the lower intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Install the power steering gear. Refer to
Steering Gear Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the heated oxygen sensor pigtail connectors to the wiring harness connector.
- Install the rear upper heat shield bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the master cylinder and connect the master cylinder electrical connector. Refer to
Master Cylinder Replacement
.
- Install the front upper heat shield bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the nut securing the A/C lines to the left hand shock tower.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the air cleaner housing assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
.

Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the
J 42640
to the steering column. Refer to
Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
for the tool installation instructions.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.
- Disconnect the center intermediate shaft from the lower intermediate shaft to provide a removal envelope for the shield. Refer to
Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Remove the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator
from the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.
- Remove the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator
from the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install the lower exhaust manifold heat shield insulator
to the oil level indicator and exhaust gasket, if necessary.
- Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield insulator
to the oil level indicator tube, if necessary.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Install but do not tighten the lower heat shield bolt.
- Lower the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the upper exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Tighten the lower exhaust manifold heat shield bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the center intermediate shaft to the lower intermediate shaft . Refer to
Lower Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
