Subject: | Difficult to Open the Front Doors (Replace Trim Fasteners) |
Models: | 2007- 2008 Cadillac SRX |
This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIC4391A.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Customers may comment that they are not able to open one or either front door. The cause may be that the rear corner of the door interior trim panel has come loose and is now jammed against the door opening weather-strip. The plastic door trim panel retainers may take a set and not fully engage in the door sheet metal causing the panel to become loose. During the PDI process, confirm that the front door trim retainers are fully seated.
Visually inspect the gap between the door trim panel and the door's inner sheet metal. If the trim panel is not completely seated (1), remove the panel and replace the plastic retaining clips. Item (2) shows a trim panel that is properly seated. Install new door trim fasteners any time the door trim panel is removed from the door. Reusing the plastic retainers is not recommended for the 2007 SRX and may lead to a comeback visit.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
