Gap Between Upper Trim Panel And I/P - keywords defroster grill

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customer may comment that the instrument panel upper trim panel has a gap (1) to the Instrument Panel. The cause may be not enough friction between the retaining clip and the cut-out in the I/P panel.

To repair this concern it is NOT necessary to replace the instrument panel upper trim panel. Apply one strip of 3M friction tape (part number 03407NA), or cloth electrical tape to one side of the retaining clip opening (2). There are 6 openings that will need tape. You may notice that the effort needed to seat the clips has increased.

Important: Do not use Vinyl electrical tape as it does not provide enough friction.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
