Rattle Or Creak From The Rear Or Roof Of The Vehicle

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A customer may comment they hear a noise that can be described as a rattle or creak from the rear or roof of the vehicle. The cause may be the body side outer quarter panel contacting sound deadener patches located inside the quarter panel, along the top forward area of the rear inner wheel well.

1. Remove the body side rear trim panel on the side where the noise is coming from.

Important: Care must be taken to not dent the outer panel when scraping the sound deadener.

2. Locate the access hole on top of the wheel well (1). Scrape the sound deadener from the top of the wheel well where it is making contact with the outer panel (2). A long bladed gasket scraper has been found to work best for this operation.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
