1. Power Liftgate Malfunction |
The liftgate control module (LGM) provides an output signal to the rear wiper motor for the purpose of disabling wiper motor operation whenever the liftglass or liftgate are open. The LGM receives inputs from the liftglass ajar switch and the sector, ratchet and pawl switches in the liftgate latch assembly to determine when an ajar condition exists. The rear wiper inhibit circuit is supplied 12 volts through a resistor and monitored within the wiper motor module. When an ajar condition exists, the LGM drives the rear wiper inhibit circuit low which the wiper motor module determines is an active inhibit signal.
Battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts.
• | DTC B396F 06 will set when the LGM detects a short to ground or an open/high resistance in the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit. |
• | DTC B396F 0B will set when the LGM detects a short to voltage in the liftgate ajar switch signal circuit. |
• | When a short to ground condition exists, the rear wiper motor will operate while the liftglass or liftgate are open. |
• | When an open or short to voltage condition exists, the rear wiper motor will not operate. |
• | The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists. |
• | You issue a scan tool CLEAR DTCs command. |
Whenever the LGM is disconnected or loses power, the ignition must be cycled OFF then ON.
Liftgate Description and Operation
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool liftgate ajar switch parameter while opening and closing the liftgate. The reading should toggle between ACTIVE and INACTIVE.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the PLM. |
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 6 for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the PLM. |
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the PLM. |
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
