The purpose of New Product Information is to highlight or indicate important changes from the previous model year.

Changes may include one or more of the following items:

    • Torque values and/or fastener tightening strategies
    • Changed engine specifications
    • New sealants and/or adhesives
    • Disassembly and assembly procedure revisions
    • Engine mechanical diagnostic procedure revisions
    • New special tools required
    • A component comparison from the previous year

Torque Values and/or Fastener Tightening Strategies

There are no changes to the fastener tightening specifications for 2009.

Changed Engine Specifications

There are no changes to the engine specifications for 2009.

New Sealants and/or Adhesives

There are no changes to the sealants and/or adhesives used for model year 2009.

Disassembly and Assembly Procedure Revisions

There are no changes to the engine disassembly or assembly procedures for 2009.

Engine Mechanical Diagnostic Procedure Revisions

There are no revisions to the engine mechanical diagnostic procedures for 2009.

New Special Tools Required

    • The piston clip remover and installation tool J 43654 Piston Pin Clip Remover and Installer has been replaced by EN 46745 Piston Pin Clip Remover/Installer EN-46745 .
    • The oil pressure gage adapter J 36648-A Oil Pressure Gage Adapter has been replaced by J 21867-6 Oil Pressure Gage Adapter .

A Component Comparison from the Previous Year

A new design of timing components is being used.

Fourth Design:

    • New secondary timing drive chains, Inverted Tooth (IT) design.
    • The camshaft position actuators incorporate new sprockets that correspond with the use of IT chains on the secondary timing drive system.
    • The intake camshaft position actuators are different for the left and right sides.
    • The left and right secondary timing drive guides are new due to the use of IT chains on the secondary timing drive system.
    • The intermediate timing drive sprockets are new due to the use of IT chains on the secondary timing drive system.
    • New intake camshafts.
    • New second design IT primary timing drive chain.
    • New second design IT crankshaft sprocket.
