Power Sunroof System Components

The power sunroof system consists of the following components:

    • Sunroof control module and motor assembly
    • Sunshade control module and motor assembly
    • Sunroof switch
    • Sunroof glass panel
    • Sunshade
    • RAP relay
    • SUNROOF MOD fuse 30 A

Sunroof Operation

The sunroof control module and motor assembly contains the logic for opening and closing the sunroof based on inputs from the sunroof switch. The sunroof motor is a reversible DC drive motor with gear train.

The sunroof control module and motor assembly determine the motor direction based on inputs received from the sunroof switch. When the ignition switch is in the ON position, voltage is applied to the sunroof control module and motor assembly through the 30 A SUNROOF MOD fuse. The sunroof control module and motor assembly controls the motor direction by changing the polarity of the applied voltage. The sunroof control module and motor assembly remembers the glass position whenever the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.

The antenna present signal circuit is for vehicles equipped with RPO U2K: Roof mounted ISARS antenna that combines Cellular/GPS/XM. This input to the sunroof control module is considered a captured input. Once this circuit is pulled low to ground, the module will always stop the sunroof from opening all the way and colliding into the antenna, even if the ground circuit is removed from the circuit.

Sunshade Operation

The sunshade control module and motor assembly contains the logic for opening and closing the sunshade based on input supplied on the K-Bus from the sunroof switch through the sunroof control module and motor assembly. The sunshade motor is a reversible DC drive motor with gear train.

The sunshade control module and motor assembly determines the motor direction based on inputs received from the sunroof switch through the sunroof control module and motor assembly. When the ignition switch is in the ON position, voltage is applied to the sunshade control module and motor assembly through the 30 A SUNROOF MOD fuse. The sunshade control module and motor assembly controls the motor direction by changing the polarity of the applied voltage. The sunshade control module and motor assembly will close the sunshade whenever the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.

In addition, the sunroof control module and motor assembly provide an input on the K-Bus to the sunshade control module and motor assembly to open the sunshade when the sunroof is being commanded to open.
