Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin
Removal Procedure
Caution: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting the steering column or intermediate
shaft. Failure to follow these procedures will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result in damage to the SIR coil assembly.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels are pointing straight ahead.
- Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the lock position and remove the key.
- Insert anti-rotation pin

into the steering column access hole in order to lock the steering column.
- Remove the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Remove the center intermediate steering shaft bolt.
- Remove the lower intermediate steering shaft bolt.
- Disconnect the lower intermediate steering shaft from the steering gear.
Note: Mark the relationship of the center intermediate steering shaft to the upper intermediate steering shaft in order to ensure proper alignment during installation. If the center intermediate steering shaft is being replaced make
sure to transfer any alignment marks made on the old shaft.
- Disconnect the center intermediate steering shaft from the upper intermediate steering shaft
- Remove the center intermediate steering shaft from the vehicle with the lower intermediate steering shaft attached.
- Remove the center intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Note: Mark the relationship of the center intermediate steering shaft to the lower intermediate steering shaft in order to ensure proper alignment during installation. If the center intermediate steering shaft is being replaced make
sure to transfer any alignment marks made on the old shaft.
- Disconnect the center intermediate steering shaft from the lower intermediate steering shaft.
Installation Procedure
- Connect the center intermediate steering shaft and the lower intermediate steering shaft.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the center intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (23 lb ft).
- Install the center intermediate steering shaft to the vehicle with the lower intermediate steering shaft attached.
- Connect the center intermediate steering shaft to the upper intermediate steering shaft.
- Install the center intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (23 lb ft).
- Connect the lower intermediate steering shaft to the steering gear.
- Install the lower intermediate steering shaft bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install the left front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
- Remove anti-rotation pin
