DEFINITION: The headlamp washers are always ON. The windshield washers operate normally.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Are the headlamp washers always ON?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Disconnect the headlamp washer relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .

Are the headlamp washers always ON?

Go to Step 8

Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the headlamp washer relay control circuit of the relay connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Test the headlamp washer relay control circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp washer fluid pump relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel module (IPM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Repair the short to battery voltage in the control circuit of the headlamp washer fluid pump. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Replace the headlamp washer relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .

Important: Always perform the setup procedure for the IPM.

Replace the IPM. Refer to Control Module References .

  1. Reconnect all previous disconnected components.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
