Diagnostic Aids

The following are the correct resistance value ranges and the correct counts, displayed in the Cruise parameter in the Body and Accessories / Cruise Control / IPM / Inputs data list, when each switch is pressed individually. If no switch is pressed the resistance value should be infinite.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  3. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  4. Disconnect C277.
  5. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the remote radio control head accessory supply voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. With a DMM, measure the resistance between the remote radio control head accessory supply voltage circuit and the adaptive cruise control (ACC) gap adjustment/radio control signal circuit.
  3. While measuring the resistance, press and hold the Mute/Gap (+) steering wheel control switch.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

1248-1292 ohms

While measuring the resistance, press and hold the Source/Gap (-) steering wheel control switch.

Does the resistance measure within the specified range?

1537-1591 ohms

Test the ACC gap adjustment/radio control signal circuit between C277 and the instrument panel module (IPM) for the following:

    • A short to ground
    • An open
    • A high resistance

Test the remote radio control head accessory supply voltage circuit between C277 and the steering wheel controls switch for an open or for a high resistance

Test the ACC gap adjustment/radio control signal circuit between C277 and the steering wheel controls switch for the following:

    • A short to ground
    • An open
    • A high resistance

Inspect for poor connections and terminal tension at the harness connector of the IPM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the steering wheel control switch assembly. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the following in the remote radio control head accessory supply voltage circuit.

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A high resistance

Replace the IPM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

  1. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  2. Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  3. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
