The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) runs continuous diagnostic tests on the system. When the ignition is turned on, the SDM will check to see if the correct components are installed for the vehicle configuration. If the SDM detects that a module has been replaced on the vehicle and has not been configured or a module has been configured incorrectly then the SDM will set a DTC B1019. If the SDM has been replaced, make sure that the correct part number was installed for this vehicle.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC B1019 System Configuration Error
This vehicle has DTCs which include DTC symptoms. For more information on DTC symptoms, refer to DTC Symptom Description in Vehicle DTC Information.
DTC Symptom | DTC Symptom Descriptor |
---|---|
00 | System Configuration Error |
Ignition voltage is within the normal operating voltage range.
• | The SDM was programmed with the wrong options for the vehicle. |
• | The wrong SDM was installed for the content of the vehicle. |
• | A module has been replace and has not been configure or a module has been configure incorrectly. |
• | The SDM commands ON the AIR BAG warning lamp via GMLAN serial data. |
• | The SDM disables all deployments. |
• | The correct SDM must be installed. |
• | The correct components must be installed. |
• | All module has been configure correctly. |
This DTC is an indication that an incorrect SDM is installed in the vehicle or a module has been replace and has not been configure or a module has been configure incorrectly.
The following numbers refer to the step numbers in the diagnostic table:
This test checks for current SDM DTCs.
This test checks to see if the correct VIN is programmed in the instrument panel module (IPM).
This step explains that the IPM must be programmed.

1 | Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? | Go to Step 2 | Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information |
Important: CANdi module J-45289 must be used with the scan tool. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC B1019 is current? | Go to Step 3 | Go to Step 8 | |
With the scan tool, verify that the instrument panel module (IPM) is programmed with the correct vehicle information number (VIN) that is stored in the IPM to the VIN plate of the vehicle. Is the IPM programmed with the correct VIN? | Go to Step 6 | Go to Step 4 | |
Use the scan tool to program the correct VIN into the IPM, refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the reprogramming procedure? | Go to Step 5 | -- | |
5 | Using the scan tool, perform the Setup SDM Part Number into IPM under Computer and Integrating System special functions. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the reprogramming procedure? | Go to Step 8 | -- |
6 | Check the vehicle for any recent module(s) replacement. Does the vehicle indicate that a module has been replace recently? | Go to Step 7 | Go to Step 8 |
7 | Go to the module programming procedure which been replaced. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the reprogramming procedure? | Go to Step 8 | -- |
8 |
Does the DTC reset? | Go to Step 9 | System OK |
