Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  5. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  7. Remove the retaining screws (4) from the lower steering column trim cover.
  8. Disconnect the closeout shroud from the lower trim cover.
  9. Notice: Avoid damaging the steering column electronic lock harness by gently removing the plugs installed in the I/P beam. Do NOT twist, pull, bend, cut, or incorrectly route the harness. Damage to the harness will require replacement of the entire electronic lock.

  10. Disconnect the electrical connector for the power tilt and telescopic switch.
  11. Remove the electrical connector for the telescopic switch from the lower trim cover.

  13. Remove the retaining screw (2) from the upper steering column trim cover (1).

  14. Object Number: 375310  Size: SH
  15. Lift the upper trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
  16. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the access hole.

  17. Object Number: 375316  Size: SH
  18. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
  19. Using the bent tip awl push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
  20. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and remove the lock cylinder.
  21. Remove the upper trim cover.
  22. Remove the closeout shroud from the upper trim cover.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 588304  Size: SH
  1. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) to the closeout shroud (3).
  2. Install the upper trim cover (1) to the steering column.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the retaining screw to the upper trim cover.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

  6. Install the Ignition lock cylinder.

  8. Install the lower steering column trim cover and ensure that the tabs (2) on the lower trim engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover. Snap the covers together.
  9. Connect the lower trim cover to the closeout shroud.
  10. Install the retaining screws to the lower trim cover.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

    Notice: Avoid damaging the steering column electronic lock harness by gently removing the plugs installed in the I/P beam. Do NOT twist, pull, bend, cut, or incorrectly route the harness. Damage to the harness will require replacement of the entire electronic lock.

  12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  13. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  14. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  15. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
