The cellular phone system's voice recognition allows for hands-free dialing, storing numbers and recalling stored phone numbers. The voice recognition feature can be used when the ignition is in ACCESSORY or ON, or when Retained Accessory Power (RAP) is active.
To activate voice recognition once the phone and the vehicle are turned on, press the talk control. The system will respond with "READY," and you will be able to use the voice commands.
Once voice recognition is active, use one of the following commands to interact with the system:
• | DIAL |
• | PROGRAM |
• | CALL |
• | DIRECTORY |
• | RE-DIAL |
• | HELP |
The above commands are the main menu commands.
The system also recognizes the word "pound" for the pound sign (#) and the word "star" for the asterisk (*).
There are a few other commands you should know before you begin using voice recognition:
• | STOP: Use this command to cancel a voice command and return to the main menu. If this command is said at the main menu, voice recognition will be cancelled. |
• | CLEAR: Use this command to delete the last spoken number, as shown on the DIC. |
• | PAUSE: Use this command to add a delay when entering phone numbers to memory, such as when adding an extension number. To continue entering numbers after a pause, press the talk control. |
Pauses are represented by a P on the DIC display. |
Following are some system responses that you should familiarize yourself with before using the voice recognition feature:
• | PLEASE REPEAT: The system will say this whenever it does not recognize a command. Repeat the command more slowly at an increased volume. If the system prompts you with this message three times in a row, the voice recognition feature will be cancelled and the system will say "CANCELLED." |
• | NO NUMBER: The system says this when a number is not valid or a memory location is not available. The system will also say this if there is no information stored in memory for call, directory or memory commands. |
• | NO PHONE: The system says this when the phone is not docked or if you are out of your cell phone service area. Make sure the phone is properly inserted in the docking cup, and then try accessing the voice recognition feature again. |
• | PHONE NO SERVICE: The system says this when the cellular phone system is not receiving a signal. You will not be able to place or receive calls at this time. |
This command allows you to say a phone number and call that number. To place a call using the dial command, do the following:
If an incorrect number is displayed, you can say "CLEAR" and the last number will be deleted. You can then continue where you left off in the number.
If you say "DIAL," the system will place a call to the phone number you entered displayed on the DIC without verbal verification.
If you say "ADD," the system will automatically switch to the add function of the program command and you will be prompted to enter a voice tag for the number. See "Add" under "Program Command" following for more information.
The cellular phone system is capable of dialing up to a 32-digit phone number. Once a call is in progress, the voice recognition commands will not be available.
The program command allows you to add or delete voice tags and their corresponding phone numbers. The cellular phone system will allow for a maximum of 25 voice tags to be stored.
If the system is full and you tell the system to add, the system will say "MEMORY FULL" and will ask you if you want to add or delete a second time. If you would like to add another voice tag and number, you must delete one of the existing ones first.
If the system is empty and you tell the system to delete, the system will say "NO NUMBER" and will ask you if you want to add or delete a second time.
Follow these steps to add a voice tag and its assigned phone number:
If an incorrect number is displayed, you can say "CLEAR" and the last number will be deleted. You can then continue where you left off in the number.
When a voice tag and phone number is saved, a memory location number will also be saved corresponding to the order the voice tags and numbers were added.
If the add process is interrupted at any point, the voice tag will not be saved. Repeat the steps to add the tag to memory.
Follow these steps to delete a voice tag and its assigned phone number:
The call command allows you to call a number you have previously programmed by saying the voice tag assigned to it.
Follow these steps to call a number by saying its assigned voice tag:
If you respond "NO," the system will search for the next closest match. The system will repeat this step two times unless a correct match is found. If the third time a match is still not found, the system will return to Step 2.
The directory command instructs the system to audibly list all the voice tags that have been programmed. You can also make a call while the list is being played. To use the playback feature, do the following:
If you say "NO," the system will say "READY" and will be at the voice recognition main menu.
Playback can be cancelled by pressing the END control during playback.
If no calls are made from playback, when the list is over the system will say "READY" and will be at the voice recognition main menu.
Use the re-dial command to instruct the system to call the last number you called again.
If you say "HELP" while in voice recognition, the system will repeat the main menu commands.
Voice recognition will be ended if one of the following occurs:
• | The END control is pressed when the system is at the main menu, |
• | no commands are spoken within five seconds of entering voice recognition, |
• | the system prompts you with the "PLEASE REPEAT" message three times in a row, |
• | you say "STOP" at the main menu of commands, |
• | an incoming call is received, or |
• | a call is placed. |
Depending upon which situation ended the voice recognition session, you may hear "CANCELLED."
