Subject: | Black Mark on Engine Cover (Reroute Engine Jumper Harness) |
Models: | 2005 Cadillac STS |
with 4.6L V8 Engine (VIN A -- RPO LH2) |
Some customers may comment on a black mark on the right front corner of the engine cover and a depression in the hood insulator.
This condition may be due to contact between the engine cover and the hood insulator. The routing of the wiring harness beneath the engine cover at the contact area forces the engine cover slightly upward.
To eliminate the contact between the engine cover and hood insulator, relocate the exhaust camshaft position (CMP) actuator solenoid wiring harness (1) to new location as shown in illustration below. Remove the engine cover and route harness below intake CMP actuator solenoid connector. Remove the black mark from the engine cover by wiping with isopropyl alcohol on a clean, non-abrasive cloth.
