Subject:Enabling The Remote Start Option

Models:2005 Cadillac STS

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Customer may state that the remote start feature is inoperative or that the option cannot be enabled/disabled through personalization on vehicles equipped with RPO YQ1 or YQ2 radio.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The owner's manual may be misleading. The correct procedure is as follows.

  1. Ignition on, Radio on.
  2. Press the "Set Up" key in the upper right hand side of the Radio.
  3. Use the tune/Select knob to enable the PERSONAL SETTINGS MENU.
  4. Use the tuning knob to scroll down to "Remote Start".
  5. Press the tuning knob to enter the remote start submenu. You will now enter the Remote Start submenu. The top selection in the submenu will be "Remote Start Engine".
  6. Press the tuning knob to enable/disable remote start. A check mark will appear next to "Remote Engine Start" when the option is enabled and the additional Remote Start features (Climate Control, Rear Window Defog and Seat Temp Control) will be displayed when "Remote Engine Start" is enabled.
  7. Use the tuning knob to scroll down to each of the additional Remote Start options and enable/disable them by pressing the tuning knob. A check mark will appear next to each feature as it is enabled.

At this point, press the back button or simply turn off the radio or the ignition switch to save and exit.

Note: There WILL NOT be a check mark next to "Remote Start" in the Set Up menu even when the system is enabled. The check marks only appear next to the selections in the Sub Menu.

As with all of the personalization on this vehicle, the Remote Start feature can be enabled/disabled separately for driver 1 and driver 2.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
