Subject:Sunroof Motor Actuator Initialization/Teach Process is Missing From eSI

Models:2005 Cadillac STS

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

The Sunroof Motor Actuator Initialization/Teach Process is missing from eSI.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Please use the following procedure to Initialize/Teach the sunroof Motor/Module assembly after replacement:

  1. Move the sunroof to the vent soft stop location
  2. Release the switch for at least 100msec
  3. Press and hold the vent switch
  4. The Sunroof will do nothing for 1 second

The roof will then drive in the vent direction until either a motor stall is detected or until the over travel distances is exceeded. If the switch is released before either of these two conditions occurs, the position will not be updated to this location.

If the Sunroof Module detected a stall condition:

  1. The motor will stop moving
  2. Keep the switch activated and do nothing for 3 seconds
  3. The Sunroof Module will update its position calibration and the glass will move back to the soft stop position.

If over travel distances is exceeded

  1. The motor will stop moving. (No reversal of motion to the soft stop will be seen).
  2. The motor will be reset to its uncalibrated state. The user must now return the switch to neutral position and then perform the normal position learn procedure.

eSI is in the process of being updated to include the attached procedure.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
