The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

SERVICE VME

This message concerns 2004-2005 Cadillac CTS and SRX and Buick Rendezvous and 2005 Cadillac STS and Buick LaCrosse and Allure with LY7 3.6L or LP1 2.8L V6 Engine Control Module (ECM) reprogram using the service procedure in bulletin 05524A. When reprogramming the ECM, it is important that battery voltage does not go below 12 volts and that the Tech 2 remains connected to the vehicle. On 2004 model year vehicles, if ECM reprogramming is interrupted because of low battery voltage or disturbance of Tech 2 connection, the ECM must be replaced. On 2005 model year vehicles, if ECM reprogramming is interrupted, it is not necessary to replace the ECM; the ECM may be reprogrammed. To ensure that battery voltage remains above 12 volts during reprogramming, it may be necessary to connect jumper cables to another battery or use a jumper box. The reprogramming procedure requires that the key is on with the engine off for slightly over an hour on 2004 model year vehicles and for about 40 minutes on 2005 model year vehicles.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
